Portable Mirror by A&N CSL
Portable Mirror by A&N CSL
A mahogany Portable Mirror made by the Army and Navy Co-Operative Society Limited.
This form of mirror was also described in their catalogues as a Box Glass (Square) and was available in teak, mahogany or oak. They were available in 9 different sizes from 11 by 9 inches to 24 by 18. This is one of the smaller sizes and for modern use, more practical for it. The mirror can be used in 2 different ways: either hung by its strong brass ring or stood in the box with the back cover propping it up at one of 3 different angles. The A&N CSL roundel is set into the interior of the base of the box and has the letter A stamped into the wood above it. The maker's reference number of 2313 is stamped to the underside of the base. Such 4 or 5 digit numbers are typical of the Army & Navy Store.
The condition of this mirror is exceptional and it looks to have hardly been used. Circa 1900.
