A teak portable Box Mirror.

The box for this mirror also forms a stand to support it. The framed mirror can be used independently to its box, which forms a support stand. The mirror has a hanging ring to the top of frame. The bottom of the moulded mirror frame has a dome headed screw to each side. When packed, these fit into cut slots to the box interior and the mirror will lie flat. When the box is used as an easel for the mirror, the two dome headed screws fit into slots cut into the middle of the interior sides of the box. The back half of the box's top is then raised on its hinges to fit into one of four pairs of teeth to the back of the mirror frame, to hold it at the desired angle. The front half of the box is then put back into its closed position to tidy up the front of the mirror.

The box mirror was a common design made by a few different makers including the Army & Navy CSL. It could be purchased in various sizes with this example one of the smaller available. The back of the mirror and the underside of the box are stamped with the initials G. C. R. L. Whether this refers to a possible owner or maker is not known.

A good mirror that can still be used. Late 19th Century.

Tallest size, set up for use is given.
