Campaign Box mirrors are usually rectangular in shape and so this mahogany oval version stands out.
As can be seen from the image, the protective back board of the mirror is part of the case and is hinged in two places to allow the glass to stand at a choice of four angles. This again differs to most other mirrors of this type that also permit the looking glass to be hung independently from its case and stand. The mirror and its case are solidly made to offer protection and it is an interesting variation. Mid to late 19th century.
