A mahogany oval Campaign Mirror with both a standard and magnifying mirror.

This mirror was a common design made by a number of different makers throughout most of the 19th and into the early 20th century. It is simple, practical and effective and so lasted the test of time.

The mirror is hinged to the centre so that the two halves can be folded against each other when not in use. The two mirrors face each other in this position encased and protected within the mahogany case. For use the mirror can either be hung, with both looking glasses on view, or opened on its hinge with one board forming the foot and the other angled for use. To use the other mirror it is simply turned to swap positions.

The mirrors are held in place by two pieces of boxwood stringing sandwiching one of mahogany. They also enhance the mirror with a little decoration. The round magnifying mirror also has an addition circle of ebonized stringing.

The two halves are fixed together by a brass clip which is both shaped and decorated with line decoration. The size of this campaign mirror is large than most to this design. Late 19th Century.

Size stood up is given.
