Small Pocket Lantern by Rodrigues
This small plated lantern can easily be carried in a pocket to be pulled out if needed.
The front and back have a piece of applied leather and both open by depressing a catch button. The front is decorated with a gilt tooled lantern with crown above and, when opened, two sides fold out, locking at right angles by the sprung base falling into place. As the base falls a sprung candle arm swings into position. The windows are mica. When the back cover is opened a vesta holder with striker is revealed. 'Rodrigues Piccadilly' around a crown is applied to the inside of the back cover. The lantern also has two wire handles that fold out. Rodrigues were at 42 Piccadilly and were known for their high quality goods. Circa 1900.
