Aside from its large size, this plated telescopic beaker differs from most by its handle.
It's not uncommon for such cups to have a hinged handle but this one allows the handle to be fixed which has the benefit of preventing the cup from collapsing. The base of the cup is stamped by the maker Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company with their address of 112 Regent Street W. It also notes the registration number of 644603 for 1915 and that it is Regent Plate which the company's marketed as a superior silver plate.
The beaker has a pig skin case with a belt strap. The owner engraved his details of 2nd Lieut. A. V. Maddock, 3rd / 2 N. Mid. B.C.D.E. RFA to the cup. Maddock was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery - 2nd North Midland Brigade (3rd Staffordshire Battery) which was part of the 46th North Midland Division. He would have seen a lot of action. Circa 1915.
