Leather Cased Flask
81819
A leather cased spirit Flask with cup.
The glass is moulded with faceted sides and shoulders shaped to fit the cup. The cup has a turned lip and is gilt washed to the interior.
To the underside of the case, J. Andrew 14th A. & S. H. is written in ink pen. The 14th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were one of several additional battalions raised in 1914 to fight in the war. The regiment inspired the phrase The Thin Red Line after their exploits in the Crimea were observed by William Howard Russell of The Times.
It is likely that Andrew carried this flask with him during the war and the odd nip now and then must have given comfort in difficult conditions. Early 20th Century.
