An Edwardian tinned copper 1/2 Pint Round Grog Measure.
The measure has a worn Weights and Measures stamp of ER with a crown above and 6 below. all contained within a border. Below the border is stamp which might be an I. The 6 denotes the Birmingham W & M Office. Aside from the size of '1/2 Pt.' there are no other marks.
The condition is good with only minor knocks and marks. Edward VII ruled for 9 years from January 1901 to May 1910 giving us a short window for the production of this Round Measure. Circa 1910.
Round Measures were used for serving the Grog mixture of rum and water on board ship. The head of each Mess of sailors would be given the Grog to then share out. A Round Measure didn't need to be as accurate as the Lipped Measure, which was used for measuring the undiluted rum with water.
