Small Rosewood Jewellery Box

Small Rosewood Jewellery Box

A rosewood veneered on mahogany Jewellery Box with plated straps and corners.

The box is lined in green velvet with a pad of velvet to the lid to cushion the contents. The box would originally have had a removable tray which it has parted company with. The escutcheon plate and key have been replaced so that it is now lockable. The name plate to the top is blank.

The silver or nickel plated straps are a little unusual and stand out well against the deep colour of the rosewood. The figuring to the veneer used for the top of the box is very strong and is reminiscent of a landscape.

A useful small box for jewellery or small items. Mid 19th Century.
