A small mahogany Campaign Box.

The box has an earlier brass campaign handle to the top. It also has a plain brass escutcheon plate to the front with a pair of swing hooks to lock the top. Although the hooks might seem unnecessary as the box has a lock, they would help support the lid when the box is lifted by its handle.

The lid interior is lined in a burgundy velvet which has shadow marks from the box's original contents. It likely to have been some type of scientific instrument. The interior of the bottom half of the box has been relined at a later date in suede.

This a plain but useful small box and the maker ensured that they used a better piece of mahogany to the top to lift it in look. Early 19th Century.
