A small leather hide Shoulder Bag with belt loops to the back to further secure it whilst wearing.
The interior has a single divider towards the back only big enough for papers, leaving a larger area to the front. The inside of the cover flap has 2 loops to take pens.
The cover is fixed by a simple strap with hole that fits over a metal button but there is a belt loop for the strap to pass through to ensure it doesn't open by mistake.
The cover is stamped with a broad arrow mark indicating that it was issued for use by the War Department. This bag was probably intended for use by a message runner or despatch carrier but can now be used as a useful, small shoulder bag. Late 19th Century.
