Cordite Carrier Stick Stand
Cordite Carrier Stick Stand
83260
A leather on cork Cordite Carrier with canvas lining.
As with so many Cordite Carriers, this one has been given a second use after its original purpose of moving cordite explosive repellant from the hold to the guns on board ship. The leather handles have been moved from their usual position on the sides to now cross over each above the mouth of the carrier. In this position they form dividers for walking sticks and umbrellas.
The carrier has a separate base cap, suggesting it was also reduced in height when it was given it new use. The leather is stamped with a broad arrow mark and RCD for Royal Chatham Dockyard. Most cordite carriers have been repurposed as stick stands or waste paper baskets and they work well. Early 20th Century.
The final image shows a second, lower cordite carrier for comparison. Its is listed separately on this website.
