Portmanteau Trunk By Allen
Allen described this type of trunk as a 'Copper-riveted Solid Leather Portmanteau, extra strong'. It has steel bands underneath the leather to strengthen it as well as brass domed studs. The interior is lined in blue ticking with red leather edging and has a lid to contain the items packed in the top half. The bottom has a lidded compartment to the side and an open one to the back.
The label to the interior gives the address of 37 West Strand. This address is seen on Allen's adverts from 1865. Late 19th century.
