An Anglo Indian padouk, brass bound trunk.
Made in Indian, probably for a British Officer or Administrator, this trunk is a good size and the wood a rich, dark colour. The brass strap work is fixed down with steel screws and, aside from an internal lock, has two hasp locks which may be later additions. The brass carrying handles to the sides look to be replaced.
The trunk interior has a candle box to the side and is of size that would be practical for bedding or lots of jumpers etc. The height is also good for use both at the end of a bed or as a coffee table. Late 18th Century.
