Pair of Solomon Brothers Washstands
Pair of Solomon Brothers Washstands
This pair of walnut washstands flat pack quickly but remain in one piece, thus elevating the problem of storing separate parts.
The two shelves are fixed to their runners by small brass bolts and when undone the side sections will fold 270 degrees to rest against the back of the washstand. This is possible because the back legs are made of two hinged sections. The shelves hinge down to rest against the inside of the back and their bolts can be used to fix them in position for travel. One of the washstands has a very faded stencil for 'Solomon Brothers, Camp Furnishers'.
There are very slight differences to the turnings on the front legs and so these can be considered a matched pair. Third quarter 19th century.
