E. Ross Dining Chairs.
E. Ross Dining Chairs.
This pair of mahogany Ross chairs have part of the earlier stencilled maker's mark of 'E. Ross, Camp Furniture Manufacturers'.
The stencil is too big to fully fit on the chair but is similar to that illustrated elsewhere on this website. Ross made a number of dining chairs, dismantling by the same principle but of differing design, dependent on the fashion of the day. The back legs bolt through the seat and into the back frame, with a further thumb bolt under the seat to keep their correct position. The front legs also screw in.
The chairs have the typical Ross numbering, with one stamped '2' and '3' and the other '4' and '5', insuring that the chair parts do not get mixed up. Other examples of Ross dining chairs can be seen in British Campaign Furniture and our At Ease Gentlemen catalogue. Mid 19th century.
