Colonial Teak Folding Stool

A folding Colonial Teak Stool with dished seat.
This stool folds in a similar manner to a naval chair, relying purely on hinges rather than bolts. The side rails are hinged so that once the drop-in seat is lifted out, the front of the stool will fold against the back. Equally, when the caned seat is dropped into the recessed area to the top of the stool, it pushes the side rails out into a rigid position. The stool is made with pegged joints and this, along with the knotting to the underside of the cane work, points to it being Anglo-Indian. This is the first example of a stool working to this action that we have seen. Late 19th Century.
