A mahogany Balloon Back Chair made to dismantle for travel.

The chair breaks down in the same manner as those made by Ross but with one difference. Whereas Ross use a thumb bolt to fix the square section back legs in the correct position, this chair has a fitted slide bolt set into the inside of the leg. These back legs are chisel marked IIII to one and X with IIII to the other. There aren't corresponding marks to the seat frame so they may have been to distinguish the parts for one chair from others in a set. However, you would still expect to see further marks to the chair.

The chair has good turning to the front legs and the leather upholstery looks to be original. Although the leather is worn in places it is still useable. An interesting variant on the Victorian Campaign chair. Circa 1835.

The table is sold separately.
