An interesting mahogany Campaign Dining Chair.

The caned seat is hinged to the front rail of the chair and sits on two iron lugs to the back. At some stage, somebody has also added a screw so that it can be further secured. We have removed it, so the chair can fold but it can still be used. When the seat is lifted, the chair folds on it's X-frame legs.

The turning to the leg stretchers and the back rail are unusual and the front legs have a good, elongated S shape. The back section of the seat has an inset iron strap to either side on the joint. If not original, they have been on a long time to strengthen the chair. The buttoned leather cushion is replaced and adds to the comfort.

A well-drawn chair. Circa 1840.
