An ash, bobbin turned Campaign Chair made to a design by Ross & Co.

The chair is not made by Ross and, other than the design, does not have any of the attributes that you would associate with the company such as their numbering system, the timbers they used etc. The chair has been made by an unknown maker copying the Dublin company's model and it was not a 'one off'. We have previously had a similar chair by the same anonymous maker.

The carpet upholstery and separate seat cushion have been replaced by us using modern small rugs. When it is removed on its leather belt straps, the chair can be dismantled. The side rails are fitted with a long bolt to the back and a lap joint to the front. The bolts are fitted through the back legs to screw into the back rail. The front and side rails have lap joints to neatly fit to each other. The bolts of the front legs pass through these lap joints to screw into the arm posts. The arms and their posts are hinged to each other and to the back posts, which are an extension of the back legs.

The Ross chair is a clever design and so its perhaps not surprising that it was copied by another maker. Late 19th Century.

The Coaching Coffee Table and flask are shown for size and sold separately.
