A small sized English, brass bound ash and oak Campaign Chest.

The top and sides of the chest are made of ash and the drawer fronts are oak. Likewise the sides and backs of the drawers are ash and the base boards are oak. The chest is in two parts which bolt together as opposed to simply locating on lugs. As can be seen, removing the top long drawer gives you access to the two thumb bolts which fix the top section down to the bottom. The turned feet also unscrew.

This chest was never made to fit into a packing case and it has iron carrying handles to the sides. The locks are unmarked, save for Patent. The chest is well made with steel screws to the brass strap work, a simply incised moulding line to the drawer fronts and a central iron strap to the back of each section for added strengthen. This chest by an unrecognised maker is a little earlier than most and its size is appealing. Mid 19th Century.
