A hand coloured engraving of 17th Light Dragoon printed by Daniel Ash of London.
It was published on the 1st of February 1826 as part of a series of prints of cavalry regiments. It is known a Life Guard, 4th Dragoon Guard, a 9th Lancer, a 11th Light Dragoon, a 12th Lancer and a 15th Hussar are also in the series.
It's drawn almost in a cartoon manner which softens the graphic depiction of the soldier's actions as he has decapitated his enemy's head, whose horse has fallen.
The regiment's name is shown to the bottom of the print, below the publisher's details of 'Pub. as the act directs, 1st Feb. 1826, by D. Ash, 27 Fetter Lane, London.'
These engravings show the Cavalry Officers as valiant heroes and were originally offered uncoloured for "Price ½ Plain". Dated 1826.
