A leather Jewellery Box.
The box has two lift out trays with a well below to give plenty of storage space. The trays both have leather tabs to the sides to aid in lifting them out. The top tray is fitted to the front and the back with dividers the full width of the box to cushion grip rings in the upright position. It also has a section for a necklace and two rectangular plain sections flanking a section with a removable cushion pad. The tray below has three equal section running from side to side to take necklaces. The well to the bottom is plain.
The leather to the outside of the box has been rolled to give a mottled texture. The trays are a dark maroon colour and lined in a similar colour velvet. The lock is a self locking sprung Bramah with its original key. The hinges are gilt brass and stronger than standard hinges Not only do they have a quadrant to give extra support to the lid but the hinge pin extends the full width of the box uniting both hinges for strength.
This is a good quality Jewellery Box. Early 20th Century.
