A leather cased, plated brass Mileometer.
The Mileometer is marked Depose and HC to the back indicating it is French. However, it was retailed in East London. The red leather case is stamped in gilt Optician W. Shakespeare, 244, High Street North, East Ham E. The case has an interesting method of opening with the lid a third of the size of the top. Its hinged to open with the full-length base remaining in place to support the Mileometer. Early 20th Century.
