A boxed game entitled The Travellers Set of Ivory Draughts.
The card box has a slip cover with a picture of a Victorian couple in a train carriage with a games board resting on their knees. With the cover removed, the boxed playing set is revealed. The turned ivory draughts sit on metal pins so that they will hold their place on a bumpy journey or if the game is interrupted.
The registration number of 10419 is printed to the the bottom left corner of the board and it dates the design to 1884. There is also a retailer's ink stamp to the middle of the cover which although faded suggests the seller was in Huddersfield.
Given that the set is predominantly card, it's likely that most didn't survive. Circa 1885.
