Mechi & Bazin Writing Slope
Mechi & Bazin Writing Slope
Made by Mechi & Bazin, this leather three fold writing slope retains its original outer hide travelling case.
The slope is covered in brown leather decorated with fine cross hatched lines and has a large, flush handle to the top. The interior is in a dark blue leather and has all its tools, including a ruler, paper knife, pencil, paper scraper etc. A number of the tools are marked with the maker's name and they are made of ivory and steel. The ink well and light are both Berry's Patent and the whole back section they are fitted into is removable. The slope also has two white porcelain boards for notes which allow pencil to be easily be wiped off. The box and outer case are both stamped 'Mechi & Bazin'.
What is obvious from this box is that they were makers of quality and their use of a Bramah Lock and Berry Patent wells are testament to this. This box is remarkable for its completeness, having not only all its original tools and outer case but also an unused Journal and Cash Book, a leather cased blotter, two sets of envelopes and writing paper.
