Ambulance Case First Aid
Ambulance Case First Aid
Sold by the Army & Navy Co-Operative Society, this leather hide First Aid kit has its title tooled to the top along with an inset red cross.
The case is secured by both a key and a strap and the top has two brass hinges as opposed to a leather hinge. The interior is lined in blue leather and was made as a single compartment without dividers. However, the lid interior is fitted with a strap to take 4 implements and is also stamped with the A & N logo, with Victoria St. address, in gilt.
The Army & Navy catalogue of 1907 illustrates a similar example although slightly smaller in size. It notes that the box contained 'Scissors, forceps, tourniquet, syringe, caustic measure, C.H. brushes, two 2 1/2 in. W.D. bandages, 1 cotton do. 2 finger do. court plaster, 1/2 in tape do. oiled silk, lint, Spirit of Sal Volatile.' Circa 1905.
