A leather Kit or Square Mouthed Bag.
As the name suggests, this bag has a metal frame to the mouth which locks when fully opened to give a square opening to easily pack or remove the contents. The interior is lined in linen and has two pockets to one side.
The case has a single, padded and shaped handle to give a good grip. It has a central, push button brass lock with key hole and a brass slide lock to either end of the bag. There is a wedge shaped leather pull tab by the central lock to aid in opening the bag. The underside of the bag has six domed brass stud feet to raise it off the ground.
The bag has a pleasing shape and the leather has been passed through a rolling machine to give it grained finish. It's a good size to use as an overnight or weekend bag. Circa 1900.
