A mahogany Table with lift up top and removable legs.

It is probable that this table originally had a dual purpose with the interior fitted to take a wash bowl. It still has 2 divided compartments to the side and the various small black marks (from iron nails) to the main part of the interior suggests it once had a bar to the back and front to support a board with a cut out to take a bowl. With its impracticality for modern living it is no surprise that it has been removed. The top overhangs the back and holds its upright position on a hinged brass stay. The subtle decoration and quality of this table is good. The internal dividers have a reeded top edge; the one piece top has a faded, ebonised line to its edge; the front has a faux drawer with brass ring pull handles and, although the legs are removable, their posts continue through to add strength. The legs are well turned and have a brass bolt to the top to fix them in place. They are numbered from 0 to 3 by a series of holes. The legs are reminiscent of Gillows but the table is unnamed. Early 19th Century.
