Although not marked, the quality of workmanship on this mahogany Bidet suggests one of the Catherine Street makers such as Butler or Morgan & Sanders. The bowl is of good, sturdy construction and the shaped copper lining is tined.

The turned legs are typical of Catherine Street and have brass capped collars with steel threads. These screw into square brass bolt plates, countersunk to the underside of the bowl or can be removed and placed in the bowl for travel. The top has a flush fitting handle, allowing the bidet to have an added use as a low table. The top is fixed during travel by two brass teeth to the one end and a lock to the other. Early 19th century.
