This two-part chest of drawers consists of two short and three long drawers and the use of teak suggests that it was either made, or destined, for use in the colonies.

Whereas the brass strips to the edges of the chest and the straps to the drawer dividers would strengthen, the oily nature of teak would make the wood more resilient to the eastern climate. The top half of the cupboard has a brass fitting to each side which houses a bolt that slides down to fix the two sections together. This system of locking the two parts of the chest together is worth noting, as is the fact that base is fitted with steel threads to receive the removable feet, both of which are relatively unusual.
