Mahogany Campaign Chest
83312
A brass bound, mahogany campaign or military chest.
This is a standard campaign chest, although three inches smaller, with two short over three long drawers. It is made in two parts that are united by four lugs to the bottom section, locating to four holes to the top. The original feet are made to unscrew so that the two drawer sections could be packed into a pair of painted pine or deal packing cases, now long since departed company from the chest. These cases probably gave the now unknown maker's details and the owner's rank, name and regiment.
The chest has gilt lacquered flush handles, brass straps and corners. The drawer linings are made of ash. There are some marks etc. to the chest but nothing more than you would expect and the colour is good. The turned feet are also a good shape and its a good sized chest. Late 19th Century.
