A mahogany Campaign Dressing Mirror.

The mirror is simple in its construction allowing it to easily dismantle for travel. The back of the looking glass frame has a brass fitting to each side to take a ball joint fitted to each upright of the stand. The frame fittings have a hinged, bolt down cover to lock the ball joint in place. This in turn both holds the mirror frame to the stand and allows it to tip to adjust the viewing angle.

The two uprights have a foot which is longer to the back than the front to add stability when the mirror is tipped. The uprights are united by a stretcher bar which is bolted in place to each end. The uprights and stretcher are numbered either I or II to identify their correct positions.

When dismantled, you have the three parts that make up the stand and the mirror which has a slide cover board to protect it when packed. The turnings to the stand are bold to give it an elegance without being too delicate to damage easily.

Although we have had a few portable Dressing Mirrors in the past, they do not come on the market that often and this is a good example. Early 19th Century.
