Brass Wellington Plaque
Brass Wellington Plaque
A cast bronze plaque of the Duke of Wellington with trace of gilt lacquer.
Profile plaques of famous people were popular with the Victorians, showing their admiration for the figure depicted be it Wellington or Dickins. Many were mounted on a velvet covered board and framed. This one stands on a brass foot which is slightly raised to the front to gently angle the profile bust. This foot has been on a long time but whether it is original or not is difficult to tell. The back of the bust does have a bolt fixed to the centre so it could be fixed to a board for framing.
Wellington is well drawn with detail to his face and uniform and a worn gilt finish to the bronze. Late 19th Century.
