A set of teak and brass Campaign Shelves with a cresting rail.

The shelves are a standard design sold by a number of makers either side of 1900. They were made to sit on top of a campaign chest, as illustrated in the last photo. Original adverts for this form of shelf show the cresting rail to the top shelf to the front whereas typically they are displayed now with the rail to the back to prevent items falling off.

To dismantle them you simply unscrew the finals to the top and remove the top shelf, the brass columns below can then also be unscrewed and the next shelf removed and so on. The cresting rail to the top is fitted on wooden lugs and so can be lifted off. The top shelf is stamped with the reference numbers 7748 3. The middle shelf is also stamped 0. This form of marking is typical of the Army & Navy Store and it is likely that they made the shelves. Late 19th Century.
