A leather Bills Filling Wallet with a brass lock.
The lock has a slide catch along with an unused gilt key still in its envelope and with its string. The case is decorated with gilt tooling around its edges to both the front and back. The interior has 5 divided compartments with gussets to expand marked: Paid, Unpaid, Answered, Unanswered and Cheque Book.
The maker's details of Smythson of Bond Street are stamped in gilt just above the fold of the flap. This filing wallet is well made and good quality, as you would expect of the maker. Circa 1920.
