This Chessboard is made of veneers of light and dark woods held together by a baize cloth backing to allow the board to rollup when not in use. The boxed Chess set is Staunton pattern and has the J. Jaques & Son Ltd label to the inside of the lid with one knight and castle from each colour stamped in red. Although the size of the Staunton set is quite small with the king 2 inches in height, it is a good match to the board.
The Board is late 19th century and the Chess Set early 20th century.
