Sold

A set of 6 leather cased, nickel plated beakers with a gilt wash to the interior.

The beakers are tall and slender compared to most. They have no maker's markings to their base. The leather case is stamped Sir Emmanuel Hoyle Bart. Hudderfield to the exterior and with the address of Banney Royd to the interior. An ink inscription of 'With all the Best, Algy 1933' is hand written to the inside of the case.

He was a woollen cloth manufacturer, running his father's business Joseph Hoyle and Sons, employing 2000 people. He bought Banney Royd, a seven-acre estate in Edgerton, Huddersfield in 1918, sixteen years after it had been built.

By repute, Hoyle was known to frequent the Savoy Hotel for cocktails in the 1930s. It is not known who Algy, the giver of these beakers was. Circa 1933.
