Leather Cased Decanters
Leather Cased Decanters
83743
A pair of silver topped glass Decanters in a leather hide carrying case.
The glass bottles are rectangular in shape to make them as ergonomic as possible for travel. The hide case is lined with boards covered in a thin chamois leather to ensure a snug, protective fit with the central divider, to separate the bottles, much thicker. The screw on silver caps are lined with cork. They are hallmarked with London dating letters of E and F for 1920 and 1921. The three-letter maker's mark is too worn to read.
The square case has a short belt strap held in place by a loop to each side and designed to be used as a carrying handle. To fix the lid, which is cut at an angle to the bottom, there is a short belt strap and buckle.
This pair of Decanters were probably aimed at the Field Sports market. Although not as big as domestic decanters, they are a size made for sharing. The case is well made and this set is a practical, size which can still be used on a shoot or picnic. Circa 1921.
