Brass Bound Desk Tray

Brass Bound Desk Tray

Sold

A brass bound, mahogany Desk Tray.

Given the white enamel plate numbered 2, this tray originally had the company of at least one other. They would have been useful on a busy desk to organise papers etc. The size will take A4 sized paper with plenty of space to spare.

The tray is made with mitred corners which are further strengthened with gilt brass corner straps. The inset base board is also mahogany and has a strip of wood to the front edge to hide the end grain. There are a couple of short splits to the base board from shrinkage. The box has a number of knocks etc. but it is a utilitarian piece and so to be expected.

This is a simple but useful item and looks good on a desk, whether it's an army officer's or not. Circa 1900.
