A brass bound oak Box lined in deep red velvet.
The exact purpose of this box is not known although the lid interior has a very slight padding to the top. There are no dividers or indicators to its purpose. The velvet has some wear and has certainly been on a long time. Whether it was a later addition it is impossible to tell with out removing it.
The box is well made with a good flush campaign handle to the top and nicely fitted gilt brass strap work. The top has stay hinges to hold it in the open position. It a useful size. The lock has been replaced and has a working key. Mid to late 19th Century.
