A mahogany Towel or Clothes Rail made to dismantle for travel.
It dismantles into 5 pieces as you would expect, once the bolts have been removed. The top and the bottom rail are fixed with bolts to either end. Like the other two, the middle rail fits to the uprights by mortice and tenon joints. With the top and bottom rails fixed in place, the middle rail is also securely held. The clothes rail is fairly plain but has a shaped foot and would be a very useful item for an officer to hang or dry his clothes and well as his towels. Mid to late 19th Century.
