An early mahogany Campaign Table with an unusual method of dismantling it.

The top is fixed to the base by 8 hinged plates with an aperture to take a twist catch fitted to the apron. In turn, the 4 parts of the apron dismantle from the legs on iron fittings that slot into plates on the legs, sliding to lock. When the top is removed, it is hinged to fold in half. The table is interesting for its early date and its construction, made at a time when they were still trying to work out the most practical ways to make portable furniture. The legs are inlaid with boxwood stringing.

The size is such that it would be useful for a single officer to both eat and work at. A rare and interesting campaign table. Circa 1790.
