Military Chest by S.W. Silver
A mahogany, brass bound campaign chest by S.W. Silver & Co.
The two part chest is lower than most English chests but is typical of many by the company. It was made to be used with out packing cases, as indicated by the iron carrying handles to the sides. This may suggest shipboard use.
The drawers have a cock bead cut to the fronts and the brass campaign handles are stamped, as to be expected, with S. W. Silver's name along with London and Liverpool. The drawer linings are also mahogany and have quadrant moulding to the interior corners. The removable turned feet are original. The two parts of the chest locate to each other with four lugs fixed to the underside of the top section.
A good chest by a good maker. Mid 19th to late century.
The width of 36 inches (91.5 cm) is without the iron carrying handles. With the iron handles, the total width is 38 inches (96.5 cm).

Good. Attempts to force the bottom two drawers have left dents to the wood above their locks. General knocks etc. as to be expected.
