Take Up Your Bed - and Walk!!!
This William Heath satirical etching was published a year after Wellington reluctantly became Prime Minister and is probably a call for his resignation. His Tory government was not popular and the public were riotous. The text alludes to Wellington's favouring of his Camp Bed and the fact that it often travelled between Downing Street and Walmer Castle, his country residence.
However, political sentiment aside, it is one of the few images that illustrates campaign furniture and it shows that there was a high decree of recognition from the public of Wellington's preference of his metal tubular bed.
