A small brass Napoleon statue.
This casting of Napoleon was used in a number of different ways by manufacturers. Not only was it made as a figure on various different plinths but we have also seen it used for pipe stompers.
It is likely that this figure was made in Birmingham. It has some details such as waistcoat buttons and epaulettes etc. but little time was put into chasing the casting to strengthen the detail. The scratched in initials to the underside of the base were probably added by an owner rather than maker.
There would have been a good market for items such as this at the time and Napoleon remains a popular figure today amongst collectors. Mid 19th Century
