Attributable to Gerald Le Marchant Saumarez, this watercolour shows naval ratings loading horses to ferry to the ship anchored off the coast.
Two Cavalry officers watch the operation with one observing the steam and sail ship through binoculars. The painting is inscribed to the rear Suakin 1884, in pencil. Major General Graham took a force from Egypt down the Persian coast to relieve the Egyptian garrison at Tokar.
