Wyburns

Robert Wyburn was born in 1829 and followed into his father's profession as a cabinet maker.

Not much is known of this provincial maker but he seems to have had a sporadic career. He was living in Taunton at the age of 25 and 2 years later, in 1856 applied for a patent for improving the construction of easy chairs. It is unclear why in 1854 he sold the stock of his furniture business but as his patent application suggests, it would appear he carried on as a cabinet maker. Perhaps it was because he moved to London, where he is listed as living at Brixton Hill, Lambeth with his wife and children in 1861.

By 1871 he's noted as a Commercial Traveller and in 1880 he followed his father, who had left 30 years before, to the United States. He travelled with his wife Elizabeth and son, who like Robert was described as a merchant.
