An unusual oak, boat shaped low table with tray top.

The table has 6 legs that are numbered in Roman numerals and unscrew on wooden threads. Typically legs that unscrew are round so that when tightened they will always align. The legs to this table are square to the top changing to a turned section 3/4s of the length down. The top has a strong construction to its underside but a finesse to its gallery, moulding and legs.

The table is carved with the date Oct. 26. 1892 to the inside of the gallery. An identical table is known although it has later brass plates covering the date. The relevance of this date is unknown but it must have commemorated something significant to the original table owners. Perhaps it was the date a well-known tree came down and the tables were made from the timber. Its shape may point towards it being associated with a naval event. This is all conjecture with little evidence to go on. It is, however, an interesting design and a practical, coffee table height. Dated 26th October 1892.
