Walnut Writing Table
80497
The legs of this walnut writing table unscrew on wooden threads to pack it down for travel.
The table is veneered in figured walnut to the top with the legs turned out of straight grain walnut and standing on castors. The design of the two carved sections of the legs is taken from the sand box fruit, which grew throughout the Lesser Antilles and was adopted as a design feature in the early 19th Century. The tooled, green leather skiver to the top is replaced. The table has a single drawer and the overhanging top has shaped brackets to each corner. These are decorative as opposed to for support.
This is a useful sized table that is finished to the back and could be used in a variety of places. Circa 1870.
